US Senate Confirms Christopher Wray as FBI Director. The US Senate confirmed Christopher Wray to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He replaces James Comey. He is also the former high-ranking official in President George W. Bush’s Justice Department.


ASI protected monuments to be declared Polythene Free ZonesThe Archaeological Survey of India has declared all ASI protected Monuments and Archaeological Sites as ‘Polythene Free Zone’. The same was announced by Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on 2 August 2017.


CBI arrests GST Council superintendent over graft charges. A superintendent of the newly- established GST Council has been arrested by the CBI for allegedly receiving bribe through one of his close aides. Monish Malhotra, the superintendent, and Manas Patra, the alleged middleman, were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last evening, an official said.


Nasa hiring new ‘planetary protection officer’ to defend Earth from alien matter. Nasa is hiring someone who can defend Earth from alien contamination. The full-time role of “planetary protection officer” will involve ensuring that humans in space do not contaminate planets and moons, as well as ensuring that alien matter does not infect Earth.

After lifetime of public service, Prince Philip officially retires at 96. Britain’s Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, on 2 August 2017 retired from the royal services at the age of 96, thus putting an end to 70 years of his service.


Not a single Indian educational institution in global top 20 rankings: HRD. There is not a single Indian educational institution in the top 20 world class ones, according to a reply by the government in the Rajya Sabha. The reply was prepared on the basis of rankings by various global agencies. Minister of State for Human Resource Ministry, Mahendra Nath Pandey said in his written reply to a Rajya Sabha question today.

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu informed the Lok Sabha during Question Hour session on 2 August 2017 that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project (MAHSR), has been sanctioned for implementation with the technical and financial assistance of the Japan government.


More than half of India’s languages may die out in 50 years: Survey. The People’s Linguistic Survey of India (PSLI) raised the alarm during the launch of the latest 11 volumes in its planned 50 volume survey of the country’s languages. India’s people speak as many as 780 different languages, the PSLI said.


Only 62% schools in India have electricity connections: HRD. Jharkhand is at the bottom of the list with only 19% schools with access to electricity, minister of state for human resource development (HRD) Upendra Kushwaha said in response to a written question.
